A computer network is a way for computers and other devices to connect with each other. This enables them to communicate using special rules to share data, si information and resources.
The first computer networks were created in the 1960s when huge military and university computers were joined together to share technical information. No one at the time knew where this would lead. Even just 20 years ago, no one used computer networks except at work, but now they’re everywhere. Computer networks allow people to look at websites on smartphones or tablets, send and receive emails, do their banking, shop and work from home, as well as stream videos and music from anywhere in the world onto a digital device such as a smart TV.
